Snapdeal’s Kunal Bahl reveals serious health issues caused by protein supplements

New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Kunal Bahl, Co-founder of Snapdeal and early-stage VC firm Titan Capital, recently shared his personal experience with protein supplements that led to serious health issues. Bahl revealed that he tried a well-known domestic brand a few years ago, following a recommendation to take protein supplements.

Within six-eight weeks, the protein supplements caused “serious health issues” for Bahl, which reversed once he stopped taking them. His warning came in response to a new study published in the journal Medicine, which highlighted the potential dangers of protein powders containing harmful substances like heavy metals and hepatotoxic herbal extracts.

The study, based on industrial standards, found that many popular protein supplements in India are often mislabeled and deceptive in their contents. Some formulations were found to contain harmful heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, along with hepatotoxic herbal extracts. This self-funded transparent study aimed to raise awareness about the risks associated with protein supplements and encourage caution among consumers.

Bahl’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for those considering protein supplements. As the findings of the study shed light on the potential dangers lurking in these products, experts advise consumers to be vigilant and informed about the safety of the supplements they choose to consume.
