Social media feud ignites tensions in Vadodara; probe underway

Vadodara, Feb 23 (IANS) – A dispute originating from Instagram has sparked communal tension in Vadodara, causing over 10 injuries. The incident, unfolding on February 21, prompted a police investigation with authorities searching for 100-150 individuals involved in the violence.

The police have restored law and order in the area following the unrest. A complaint has been lodged, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the violence.

The conflict began when local entrepreneur Jatin Patel, known for his social media presence, received an offensive comment on Instagram. The comment, deemed harmful to religious sentiments, led to tensions between Patel and the originator, “sahid-patel-7070”, traced back to Sahid Patel of Gujarat Housing Board area.

Attempts to contact Sahid Patel were unsuccessful, fueling the situation. Hindu organizations rallied outside the Housing Board society in search of Sahid, escalating into a confrontation at the Navapura police station where Patel had filed his complaint.

The standoff intensified when a group from the Muslim community arrived and clashed with the Hindu demonstrators, resulting in injuries. The situation culminated in a violent altercation with stone-pelting. The demonstrators demanded Sahid Patel’s arrest, chanting “Jai Shri Ram” slogans until action was taken.
