Sonakshi praises Bhansali for his unmatched portrayal of women on screen

Mumbai, March 7 (IANS) Actress Sonakshi Sinha has praised filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his portrayal of women on screen, saying nobody else is able to do that. Sonakshi will star in Bhansali’s upcoming series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” alongside other talented actresses.

During a panel organized by FICCI, Sonakshi expressed her excitement about collaborating with Bhansali, stating, “Sanjay sir and I have been trying to collaborate for many years now and I’m so glad it happened on ‘Heeramandi’. The way he portrays women on screen, nobody else is able to do that.”

The series “Heeramandi” revolves around the lives of six women in the midst of power struggles in undivided, pre-independence India. Sonakshi shared her enthusiasm about being a part of such a project, highlighting the majority of the team being women. She said, “To be a part of something like this, it’s been tremendous, to say the least. Girls were running that world.”

Sonakshi, who made her Bollywood debut with “Dabangg” in 2010, is now venturing into series with “Dahaad” in 2023. She expressed her excitement about the changing landscape for female actors in the Indian industry, attributing it to the rise of OTT platforms. Sonakshi added, “It’s the best time to be a female actor in the industry, there’s so many more openings. I’m so happy to be a part of that.”
