Akhilesh Yadav will don the role of the opposition leader in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. In the first step in this direction, the scion of the Samajwadi Party has quit his position as the Lok Sabha MP from Azamgarh. However, he has retained his position as the MLA of the state.

Akhilesh Yadav will play a more proactive role in the state. The party has won 111 seats in the Uttar Pradesh State Elections. The narrow margins of win have emboldened the Samajwadi Party and restricted BJP to 273 seats, a significant climb down from the 325 seats which the saffron party had managed to win in the 2017 elections. The party think tank now feels that the BJP fort is not impregnable.

With the Congress and the BSP reduced to single-digit vote shares, the Samajwadi Party will be the most prominent opponent of the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections. The route to power in the Center goes through Uttar Pradesh which has 80 Lok Sabha seats.

First Time In 37 Years Ruling Party Wins Two Terms In Succession

Yogi Adityanath is all set to take the reins of the power for the second time in continuation. This is unique because it is happening for the first time in 37 years when the electorate returned to power the ruling party in succession.

Akhilesh Yadav’s presence in the State Assembly will make life difficult for the ruling party, getting ready to take on a formidable opponent. Yadav has been a relentless critic of the incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He had vociferously criticized the CM’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also accused the ruling party of electoral malpractices.
