SP encounters issues in Rampur, Moradabad due to double candidate situation

Lucknow, March 27 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party is facing a situation with multiple candidates filing nominations in Rampur and Moradabad constituencies. One candidate in each owes allegiance to Azam Khan while the other is chosen by Akhilesh Yadav.

In Moradabad, sitting MP S T Hasan was renominated by Akhilesh Yadav but Azam Khan proposed Ruchi Veera’s name instead. Ruchi Veera has now filed her nomination papers as well, creating a dual candidate scenario in Moradabad.

Similarly, in Rampur, Akhilesh named Maulana Mohibullah Nadwi as the candidate but Asim Raza, an aide of Azam Khan, also filed his nomination claiming to be the official candidate. This has caused uproar among party workers in Rampur.

To address the crisis, senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav is on his way to meet Azam Khan in jail. The situation puts the party in a bind as internal conflicts arise over candidate selection.
