Srinagar-Jammu highway to be closed for 14 hours starting on Saturday

Traffic on the strategic Srinagar-Jammu national highway was allowed one-way on Saturday due to bad road conditions and narrowing of the highway at various places due to landslide debris. Officials stated that traffic will move from Srinagar to Jammu, with no vehicles allowed in the opposite direction until 1 p.m. for light motor vehicles, then heavy vehicles.

On Friday, traffic moved from Jammu to Srinagar. Authorities have decided to suspend traffic on the highway for 14 hours starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday for widening of the highway. The decision was made to ensure safety and well-being of travelers and drivers, with the haltage starting at Dhalwas and widening taking place at other locations from Nashri to Banihal.

The 300-km-long highway is essential for supplying the landlocked Valley with essential commodities. The road closure is necessary for necessary road widening procedures. The lifeline of supplies for the Valley is affected by the road conditions, leading to temporary one-way traffic regulations to facilitate safe travel for all commuters.
