Surveys predict 50% seats for MVA in Maha, BJP unnerved, claims Sharad Pawar

NCP-SP President Sharad Pawar predicts 50% Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra to go to MVA – rattles BJP. He accuses BJP of deploying CBI, ED, and IT department to sabotage opposition parties. Expresses no surprise at Ashok S. Chavan’s exit to BJP and hints at seat-sharing consensus within MVA.

Sharad Pawar, NCP-SP President, addressed the media on Wednesday, revealing the predictions of pre-poll surveys that at least 50 per cent of the Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra would go to the Opposition MVA, leaving the BJP uncertain of its victory in the forthcoming elections.

Pawar accused the BJP of resorting to sabotaging Opposition parties and their leaders by deploying the CBI, ED, and IT department, referencing former Congress strongman Ashok S. Chavan’s recent entry into the BJP fold as an example. He further expressed no surprise at Chavan’s exit and hinted at having an inkling of what was to come.

Speaking about the MVA’s seat-sharing talks, Pawar revealed that there was a consensus on a majority of the 48 seats, and the rest would be finalized in the next two-three days. He suggested that wherever there are disputes, the top MVA leaders sit together and hammer out solutions and advised the same strategy for the INDIA bloc.

Pawar also advised that INDIA partners in each state should hold discussions among themselves, particularly in states like Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, where there is no consensus on seat-sharing. In West Bengal, he emphasized the need for traditional rivals like the Trinamool Congress, CPM, and Congress to tackle such issues.

The senior Pawar suggested a similar strategy for the parties that form the INDIA bloc and asserted the need for consensus and collaboration to strengthen the position of opposition parties in the upcoming elections.
