Suvendu Adhikari challenges senior cop to prove his allegations on 'turban' comment

Kolkata, Feb 20 (IANS) – The leader of opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has challenged the ADG (South Bengal) of West Bengal Police, Supratim Sarkar, to prove his allegations against a section of BJP legislators within 24 hours. This comes after Sarkar accused the BJP legislators of making comments relating to the turban of an IPS officer.

Earlier on Tuesday, there was a heated exchange of words between the Special Superintendent (Intelligence Branch) Jaspreet Singh and BJP legislator Agnimitra Paul after Singh accused Paul of passing a comment relating to his turban. Singh threatened to take action, while Paul denied the allegation.

Sarkar then stated that he will initiate strong action as per the legal provisions against anyone making such a comment, citing Section 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.

Adhikari has responded to the allegations, stating, “He (Sarkar) will have to prove which BJP leader has passed such a comment. Otherwise, I will take legal action against him.”

The situation remains tense as the challenge has been thrown, and the 24-hour deadline looms. It is crucial for the allegations to be resolved swiftly to prevent further escalation and maintain peace and order in the state.

The developments in this incident are being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as the situation progresses.
