Suvendu Adhikari presents list of 17 lakh ‘fake’ voters in Bengal to ECI

Kolkata, Feb 28 (IANS) The leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, submitted a list of nearly 17 lakh alleged fake voters to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Adhikari claimed that the list includes deceased voters, those who have moved elsewhere, and names appearing at multiple places.

Adhikari went to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal with 24 bags containing the list of ‘fake’ voters and also submitted a deputation to the office of the CEO. The BJP leader stated that the exact number of fake voters identified in West Bengal is 16,91,132.

According to Adhikari, the number of bogus voters identified is almost equal to the margin between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. He also mentioned that a 14,267-page document and details in a soft-copy format have been submitted to the ECI ahead of their visit to West Bengal in March.

In response to the allegations, the Trinamool Congress leadership has dismissed them as “totally false”. The full bench of the ECI is set to visit West Bengal to hold meetings with all political parties and Adhikari plans to update the team about the irregularities during their visit in March.
