Suvendu Adhikari writes to PM accusing Mamata of misleading people on Aadhaar cancellation

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in West Bengal, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been deliberately spreading rumors about the cancellation of Aadhaar cards in the state. Adhikari accused Banerjee of creating panic and peddling politically-motivated fake news. He also claimed that Banerjee’s proposal to issue state government identity cards as an alternative to Aadhaar is unauthorized interference in the subject matter of the Union List.

In the letter to the Prime Minister, Adhikari stated, “The Chief Minister intentionally and deliberately creating panic among the people of the state by peddling politically-motivated fake news that the Central government is going to deactivate Aadhaar cards.” He further accused Banerjee of continuing with such misleading propaganda even after it was revealed that some individuals received messages of Aadhaar card cancellation by mistake due to a technical glitch.

Adhikari also pointed out that this is not the first time Banerjee has attempted to create hysteria over Aadhaar cards, citing her previous allegations that Aadhaar verification was a ploy to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal.

The leader of the opposition claimed that Banerjee’s actions are in violation of the 7th Schedule of the Constitution, which lists the subject matters of the Union List. The letter to the Prime Minister accuses Banerjee of unauthorized interference and deliberate spreading of misinformation to create panic among the people of the state.

Suvendu Adhikari’s letter to the Prime Minister highlights the ongoing political tensions in West Bengal, with allegations of deliberate misinformation and unauthorized interference by the Chief Minister. The issue of Aadhaar card cancellation has become a point of contention between the opposition and the ruling party, raising concerns about the impact on the state’s population.
