Suzuki registers trademarks for Escudo and Torqnado in India

Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce eight new models in India across various engine options. The parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has filed trademarks for Escudo and Torqnado names, which could be used for upcoming offerings. Escudo is already used for Vitara SUV in Japan.
Automakers often trademark names for future use, though not all may materialize into products. Maruti Suzuki has a lineup of new launches, starting with the next-gen Swift and Dzire. The company will also launch the production version of the eVX electric SUV concept by 2025, marking its entry into the EV space.
In a strategic move, carmakers secure copyright by trademarking names. For instance, Ford couldn’t use the Everest name in India for its full-size SUV as Maruti Suzuki held the rights. Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming models include a three-row Grand Vitara version, electric MPV, entry-level electric hatchback, micro SUV, and new three-row compact SUV.
The newly approved Escudo and Torqnado names could potentially be used for any of these models. Stay tuned for the latest updates on Maruti Suzuki’s exciting new launches.
