Tamil Nadu Heavy Rain: Schools, Colleges To Remain Closed In Several Districts

The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has been hit by rains leading to water logging and the Government declaring holidays for schools and colleges in many districts of the state. Tamil Nadu is a state which often experiences rains during the time when most of North India is experiencing winter. However January is a period which is characterized by dry weather. However the rain which is rare during this time of the year is caused by a low pressure region in the Bay Of Bengal.

Districts which was most affected by the freak weather was Nagapattinam while other regions like Cuddalore, Vellore , Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai is also experiencing rain and thunderstorms prompting the authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges. Chennai and adjacent Meenambakkam also experienced intermittent rains.

The weathermen have forecast heavy to very heavy rains in different parts of Tamil Nadu particularly in the southern districts of Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, and Tirunelveli for the coming three days. The authorities have asked the citizens to remain alert and also has asked the disaster agencies to remain on high alert and prepare for any emergency.
