Telangana and Andhra Chief Ministers express condolences on the passing of first Telugu news reader

The first Telugu TV news reader, Shanti Swaroop, passed away in Hyderabad at the age of 74. He started reading news on Doordarshan in 1983 and continued till 2011. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers, along with other political leaders, expressed their condolences over his demise.

Born in 1947, Shanti Swaroop began his career as a news reader in 1983 on Doordarshan, before the era of teleprompters. He became a familiar face for Telugu viewers, delivering news with professionalism and dedication for nearly three decades.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy praised Swaroop as the first generation news reader who became a household name in Telugu households. The Chief Minister acknowledged Swaroop’s significant contribution to the Telugu media and extended his condolences to the bereaved family.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also mourned the loss of Shanti Swaroop, highlighting his pioneering efforts in the field of news broadcasting and how he inspired many newscasters despite the technological limitations of that time. Leaders from different political parties and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy also paid their respects to the late news reader.
