Ten-man Milan capitulate to Monza for first time
AC Milan Suffers 4-2 Defeat to Monza in Serie A
In a surprising turn of events, AC Milan lost to Monza for the first time, suffering a 4-2 defeat in their away game in Serie A. The match also saw Luka Jovic being sent off, further adding to Milan’s woes.
The Rossoneri, fresh off a 3-0 Europa League win over Rennes, decided to rotate their line-up for Sunday’s game. However, Monza quickly surged into a 2-0 lead just before half-time, with Matteo Pessina converting a penalty and Dani Mota Carvalho finishing with a curling effort.
Milan’s situation worsened after the break as Luka Jovic was shown a red card for slapping Armando Izzo. Despite the setback, the away side managed to pull one goal back as Christian Pulisic set up Olivier Giroud for a close-range tap-in, and Pulisic himself scored with a left-footed strike in the 88th minute.
However, Monza dashed Milan’s hopes in the dying minutes as Daniel Maldini, an AC Milan loanee, assisted for Warren Bondo to score from the edge of the box, followed by another goal from Milan-owned player Lorenzo Colombo.
The defeat saw Milan fail to overtake second-placed Juventus, as they continue to rank third with 52 points in the Serie A standings. In other matches, Roma dominated Frosinone 3-0, Lazio lost to Bologna 2-1, Udinese drew with Cagliari 1-1, and Empoli and Fiorentina played out a 1-1 draw.
It was indeed a day of unexpected results in Serie A, with AC Milan’s loss to Monza taking center stage and impacting the team’s position in the league standings.
