Tesla’s Gigafactory in Germany ‘afraid’ of snakes

Frankfurt: US billionaire and owner of electric car company Tesla, Elon Musk, plans to build a Gigafactory in Germany, close to Berlin. But due to snakes, this plan may get hurt. A German court has ordered Musk to stop the work of clearing the forest for the proposed factory. Some environmentalists say that cutting trees could endanger the existence of snakes.

A spokesperson for the court said the environment authority and Tesla would be consulted. They have to present their case and only then will the situation be reviewed. The Environment Authority and Tesla declined to comment. Tesla revealed plans to build the first factory and design center in Europe closer to Berlin at the end of last year. The company was planning to make an electric crossover Model Y sports utility vehicle from this factory from 1 July 2021.

Snakes Sleep can be Disturb

Musk, who made Tesla the world’s most valuable car company from a start-up, is known for rapidly implementing its plans. The company’s Shanghai Gigafactory was completed in just 11 months. But the companies way is not easy in Germany. Here the company is going to undergo an environmental audit which takes a lot of time.

Activists from the local environmental group NABU say that smooth snakes at the factory site can occur in Coronella austriaca hibernation and that cutting down trees can impair their sleep. They also say that this can also pose a threat to the Sand Lizard i.e. Locals fear that Tesla’s factory may increase pressure on water sources. They want assurance from the company that they will consume limited water.
