Tharoor faces legal action after comments against Rajeev Chandrasekhar in poll battle

In a legal turn of events, BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar has served a defamation notice to his Congress opponent Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency. Chandrasekhar alleges Tharoor spread false information about bribing key voters and influential figures like Christian parish priests.

Chandrasekhar expressed shock at Tharoor’s allegations in a TV interview with Kerala-based news organization ’24 News’. The notice demands an immediate withdrawal of all allegations, an unconditional public apology, and a cessation of such actions in the future to satisfy Chandrasekhar.

The legal notice accuses Tharoor of making defamatory statements with the intent to harm Chandrasekhar. It highlights the damage caused to the Christian community in Thiruvananthapuram by accusing its leaders of engaging in cash-for-votes activities, emphasizing the need for a public apology within 24 hours.

Furthermore, the notice suggests that Tharoor may have fabricated these allegations to sway voters in Thiruvananthapuram. The intense poll battle in the constituency has now taken a legal turn, with both candidates at odds over the dissemination of misleading information and defamation accusations.
