The animal care centre will soon be built near Noida Airport

Noida– In the latest development, the Uttar Pradesh government has requested the environment, forest and climate change department to start its work for the animal rescue and rehabilitation centre near the Greenfield Noida International Airport at Jewar. The centre will be part of the city’s biodiversity conservation plan because the wildlife may be affected by the construction in the project area.

Additionally, the state government has requested the Noida Authority, Yamuna Expressway industrial development authority (Yeida) along with the Greater Noida Authority which owns shares in the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) to form a team that will oversee the operations and the development of the centre and airport.

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) earlier proposed that an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre could be constructed near the area of the airport after a study of the site in 2019-20. WII was asked to come after the Union environment ministry became concerned regarding the degrading of natural aspects of the area such as canals, ponds and trees and the disruption of wildlife. The airport is being built near wetlands which are home to many species like blackbucks, state birds and sarus cranes.

With that said, the department has asked NIAL and Yeida to take preventive measures in order to protect the environment. “Under the biodiversity conservation plan, we need to build a temporary animal rescue and rehabilitation centre on 10 hectares of land near Greenfield Noida International Airport at Jewar. We have been told that we must begin work within six months after following all procedures. Our job is to provide five hectares of land because the Department of Environment, Forest, and climate change already has five hectares near the airport. In addition, we will fund this project in accordance with the state government’s instructions,” said Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer of NIAL and Yeida.
