TikTok Faces Preliminary Investigation by French Data Privacy Watchdog CNIL

France’s knowledge privateness watchdog CNIL stated on Tuesday that it has opened a preliminary investigation into Chinese language-owned video-sharing app TikTok after it acquired a grievance.

TikTok, owned by China’s ByteDance, is already beneath investigation over privateness considerations by US, European Union and Dutch authorities.

“A grievance about TikTok was acquired in Could. This grievance is now beneath investigation,” a CNIL spokesman stated, confirming a Bloomberg report.

He declined to elaborate on the character of the grievance or the identification of the complainant.

In the US, officers have stated that TikTok poses a nationwide safety danger due to the private knowledge it handles.
