Toyota’s new 4Runner SUV to feature roll-down rear window, set for upcoming debut

Toyota has dropped a new teaser for its upcoming 4Runner SUV in the US. The Toyota 4Runner is set for a global debut on April 9, 2024. The upcoming 4Runner will feature an electrically operable roll-down rear window, showcased in the latest teaser video.

The teaser demonstrates the rear window rolling down at the touch of a button, providing easier access to the boot without opening the tailgate. This feature will be a key highlight of the SUV and is a unique addition. The last car in India with an openable rear window was the first-generation Hyundai Tucson.

In addition to the roll-down rear window, the teaser also reveals a large tablet-style freestanding infotainment system in the new-gen 4Runner SUV. The cabin will be in line with the latest Toyota offerings. The model is based on the TNGA-F truck platform, similar to the Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Lexus GX, and LX SUVs.

The upcoming 4Runner is expected to have engine options like a 2.4-litre turbo petrol on the base variant, with a hybrid version possibly added later. The current model has been on sale for 15 years, with the new-gen model undergoing a complete overhaul. The 4Runner continues to be popular, selling about 150,000 units annually.

On the Indian front, Toyota recently launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor, its most accessible SUV. Based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the Urban Cruiser Taisor features a coupe roofline, restyled grille, new alloys, and tweaked taillights. The subcompact SUV targets city buyers and is Toyota’s first turbocharged offering in India.
