Trafford Park Leak: Chemical and Hazardous Gas Leaks Resulting in Lockdown in the City
Greater Manchester’s Trafford Park has currently invaded news headlines as the news surrounding its gas leak situation has emerged from Lanxess Solutions UK. The incident reportedly occurred on March 4, 2024, at 9 am. It is regarded as a hazmat incident (hazardous materials).
Toxic Leak in Trafford Park Results in Immediate City Lockdown
Daily Mail reported that the leaked chemical is phosphorous oxychloride.
As the news escalated, the Greater Manchester Police Department along with fire services and ambulances immediately arrived at the spot to offer help.
The cops issued an official statement on their website which states,
“Officers are currently at the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service. There have been no reported injuries and everyone at the business premises has been accounted for.”
Manchester Police also went to their official X account and confirmed the incident.
As per reports by BBC News, the leak of the gas occurred during the unloading of a tanker.
However, the complete information is yet to be extracted from the authorities.
Trafford Park Gas Leak Incident Results in Lockdown
Residents received the warnings about the gas leak at first, as per The Mirror. Due to the leak of the poisonous gas, a temporary lockdown occurred in the area. Inhabitants were requested not to open the doors of their windows and houses.
Manchester Police revealed to the people that an unidentified person was transferred to the hospital in the wake of this hazardous situation. The Manchester Evening News noted that police officials stated that cordons were lifted in several areas by 2 pm.
It was further added,
“Resources were scaled back to support the ongoing operation by Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. However, the incident has now closed down with all NWAS resources leaving the site.”
Paramedics conducted extensive health checkups, and people were advised to contact the NHS 111 helpline if they experienced symptoms such as wheezing, blueness in the fingers and lips, and breathing difficulties.
