TRAI releases consultation paper for ‘National Broadcasting Policy 2024’ formulation

New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper for the formulation of the ‘National Broadcasting Policy 2024’. The aim is to enhance the broadcasting sector and establish India as a ‘Global Content Hub’.

The consultation paper, titled ‘Inputs for formulation of National Broadcasting Policy-2024,’ seeks comments from stakeholders to address key issues in the broadcasting sector. The Ministry of Communications has invited written comments by April 30, 2024, to contribute towards the formulation of the broadcasting policy.

In response to a request from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting last year, TRAI is providing inputs under Section 11 of the TRAI Act, 1997 for the National Broadcasting Policy. A pre-consultation paper was issued in September 2023 to gather crucial issues for consideration in the policy formulation.

The broadcasting sector holds potential for contributing to the Indian economy’s growth. The policy inputs aim to define the vision, mission, objectives, and strategies for the sector’s development in the age of new technologies. Questions are raised on regulatory measures, strategies for economic contribution, innovation, job creation, and skill development.

The consultation paper is focused on creating a conducive environment for the growth of the broadcasting sector and exploring ways to maximize its potential. Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in shaping the National Broadcasting Policy for 2024 and to provide valuable insights for the future of the industry.
