Transgender individuals in UP will now be involved in raising voter awareness

Lucknow, April 1 (IANS) Transgenders in Uttar Pradesh are set to play a crucial role in increasing voters’ awareness, as per officials. The Election Commission has initiated various programmes focusing on boosting voting percentage through street plays and other initiatives.

The initiative kicked off in Gonda district with the ‘Transgender Samvad’ organized by the Social Welfare Department under the District Magistrate’s supervision. District Magistrate Neha Sharma highlighted the strong bond between the transgender community and the general public, emphasizing their effectiveness in reaching out to common people.

DM Sharma mentioned that Gonda district has over 25 lakh voters, including 97 transgender voters. With the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India, the Election Commission is keen on engaging all communities in the electoral process. Transgender Group head, Amrita Soni, shared suggestions for the voter awareness program and plans for street plays and other activities.

The Election Commission is committed to inclusive participation in the elections, recognizing the significant role the transgender community can play in shaping the electoral outcome. Through collaborative efforts with transgenders, the aim is to enhance voter awareness and increase participation in the democratic process.
