Trinamool accuses Suvendu Adhikari of spreading false information about senior police officers
Trinamool Congress Files Complaint Against Suvendu Adhikari for Spreading Fake News
Kolkata, March 23 (IANS) – The Trinamool Congress has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal against opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari for spreading fake news through social media regarding the posting of senior police officers.
In the complaint, the ruling party accused Adhikari of sharing “false”, “unverified”, and “baseless” statements by releasing a list of top police officers who he claimed were not from the India Police Service (IPS) cadre. The Trinamool party alleged a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct and urged the CEO to direct Adhikari to refrain from such posts in the future.
Furthermore, the Trinamool demanded immediate action against Adhikari for violating the Model Code of Conduct and requested the CEO to instruct him to remove the post from his social media handle.
The West Bengal Police also denounced Adhikari’s post on their official social media account, denoting it as a “distortion of facts”. The police stated, “The claims made in the attached tweet are false and misleading. All procedural norms have been maintained in adherence to the MHA rules.”
This incident highlights the growing concerns of spreading misinformation and fake news through social media platforms, especially during the election period. The Trinamool Congress’s swift action underscores the party’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
In light of these developments, it remains to be seen how the Chief Electoral Officer will address the complaint and ensure that such instances of misinformation are promptly addressed to maintain the sanctity of the electoral process in West Bengal.
