Turkish Women’s Cup: Indian women's team set for maiden clash with Estonia

The Indian senior national women’s team is set to play its maiden clash with Estonia in the four-nation Turkish Women’s Cup football competition in Alanya, Turkey. After a successful camp, the team is confident and ready for the tournament.

The Indian team had a rigorous training session on Tuesday as it prepared for its opening game in the tournament. The team checked into its hotel late on Monday and travelled 133 kilometres by bus to reach its destination in Antalya.

Seasoned campaigner and defender Dalima Chhibber expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, stating, “We have come up with a lot of positive and new energies with young and experienced players. It’s a mixed batch and we are looking forward to taking it one game at a time.”

The Indian senior women’s national team was last seen in action in October 2023. Defender Dalima Chhibber mentioned that getting game-time in the current Indian Women’s League season has helped the team in terms of fitness and experience, expressing confidence in the team’s preparation for the upcoming match against Estonia.

Captain Ashalata Devi emphasized the team’s preparedness, stating, “We have focused on both our defense and attack in the session today and we are going with a winning mentality tomorrow,” while Head coach Langam Chaoba Devi highlighted the team’s eagerness to kick off their campaign in the tournament.

The coach also acknowledged the challenges posed by Estonia, describing them as a tough team but expressing confidence in the team’s strengths. The Indian team is prepared to give its all in the upcoming match against Estonia.
