Two Dead in Holland America’s Nieuw Amsterdam Ship Incident
Recently, news about two crew members dying during an incident on a Holland America cruise ship has spread all over the internet.
According to the cruise line, an “incident” occurred in the ship’s engineering space. NBC reported that, as per officials, “a fire broke out on a Carnival ship while both of the ships were in the Bahamas.”
The cruise line said,
“There was an accidental steam release in an engineering space on board Nieuw Amsterdam, which sadly resulted in the death of two crew members.”
Holland America in a statement said that Nieuw Amsterdam, based in Florida, was at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas when the crew members died on Friday. The identity of the crew members couldn’t be known.
Cause Of ‘Incident’on Holland America Cruise Ship
The cruise line said that as per notifications issued by the authorities, the cause behind the accident is currently under the collective investigation of the Dutch Safety Board and the Bahamas Maritime Authority.
The statement read,
“All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our team members’ families at this difficult time. The safety, security and welfare of all guests and crew are the company’s absolute priority.”
According to TimesNow, on March 16, the ship started its journey to Fort Lauderdale for a seven-night trip.
The cruise line reported that, “a fire on the port-side exhaust funnel of another Florida-based cruise ship in the Bahamas, the Carnival Freedom, rocked some passengers on Saturday and took the ship out of commission for repairs.”
However, no other injuries have been reported.
Carnival Cruises on Sunday acknowledged in a statement that before the fire erupted, the sound of thunder or a lightning strike was witnessed.
