Two Filipinos killed in Houthi missile attack confirmed by Philippines

Two seafarers were killed in a missile strike by Houthi militants on a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden, confirmed by the Philippine government on Thursday. The Department of Migrant Workers stated that two other sailors were severely injured in the attack.

The cargo ship True Confidence was struck by anti-ship ballistic missiles southwest of Aden port. Reports mentioned that the vessel had 20 crew members, with 15 being Filipino nationals. The DMW is coordinating with the shipowner and agency for the repatriation of the remaining crew members.

Surviving Filipinos have been taken to a safe port. The Philippines is a major supplier of maritime labor globally, providing almost one-fifth of the 1.2 million seafarers worldwide. Last November, 17 Filipino seafarers were held hostage after an Israeli cargo ship was hijacked by Houthi militants in the Red Sea and are yet to be released.
