Udupi College Incident: ‘Hidden Camera in Washroom’, FIR Registered Against 3 Girls, Here’s Everything Happened So Far

After a huge outcry reports that three girls of Netra Jyothi College, Udupi had put hidden cameras in the washroom to record a Hindu girl student, Karnataka police have now stated that the allegations were found to be untrue and there has been no such incident.
Earlier, In a statement, the Karnataka Police stated that they did not find any hidden cameras in the washroom. However, in a recent development, news reports claim that the police has booked 3 girls in connection to the alleged filming after FIR were registered against them.
The incident has led to a slugfest between the ruling and opposition parties with the opposition BJP party alleging that the state government is trying to conceal the incident and is hands in gloves with the jehadi elements.

The genesis of the whole controversy can be traced to three female students being suspended for secretly taking a video of a fellow student in the college washroom. The incident has spiraled into a major controversy and it has also acquired a communal turn.
On the other hand, Earlier, the Karnataka Police has stated that there was no evidence of any secret camera being installed in the girl’s washrooms. It was also added that no videos have been circulated and negated any communal angle and said that mischievous elements are spreading misinformation.
Activist Rashmi Samant highlighted the ‘Udupi College Incident’
Tweets by activist Rashmi Sawant however made a different story and BJP has supported her accusing the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of bullying and persecution” and shielding the Jehadi elements.
Rashmi Sawant in her tweets about the Udupi episode had alleged that videos of unsuspecting Hindu girls were taken by secret cameras installed in washrooms and later subject to blackmail. She also quoted the local newspapers in her tweets while making the allegations.
Samant also revealed that she was also visited by cops and charged the police for intimidating her for making the allegations in her tweets.
Samant was asked about the evidence on the basis of which she was making the allegation; she said that her tweets were based on local newspaper reports after an investigation when the incident first came into notice on July 20 and 21. She also alleged that the three girls who were suspended belonged to a particular community.
She further countered the Police statement that no videos have been taken and if the Police bring forth this version then it will have to take back an earlier statement from July 20 and 21.
The BJP had on Tuesday alleged that the ruling government is going soft on jihadis and turning a blind eye on the persecution of Hindus. It charged the ruling Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of using the Police to target an individual who had tweeted about the students Alimatul Shaifa, Shabanaz, and Aliya, of secretly placing cameras to prepare videos of their Hindu classmate.

Earlier Karnataka Police Denied Allegations, But now FIR registered against three
As mentioned above, The Police on Tuesday denied that any such incident had happened and there is no evidence of any secret cameras in the girl’s washroom nor were any videos circulated. The Police also stated that a number of false narratives and rumors are being spread to give the fictitious incident a communal turn. The motive for such spread of false narratives was to vitiate society’s peace. The Police also denied that the purported videos were to blackmail Hindu girls and no such evidence was uncovered.
The Police also stated that it has not received any complaint from Hindu girls that they were blackmailed through the purported videos. The Police added that the mobiles of the three girls were also checked to uncover any evidence of any videos being forwarded and no such instance was seen. The official also added that social media was also checked and no such videos have been found.
However, in the latest development according to IndianExpress.com, Udupi police on Wednesday booked three girls in connection to the filming of a girl in the toilet of the Netra Jyothi College.
