UK Woman Sentenced for Harassing Boyfriend’s Ex With Farting Videos in Landmark Cyber Case

In a case which could be labeled as the first cyber farting case a woman who was charged of bombarding her boyfriend’s ex-partner with videos of her farting was sentenced to 15 rehabilitation sessions alongside 60 days of alcohol abstinence monitoring.

A two year’s restraining order has also been issued against the woman. The woman was sentenced by a Wales court.

Rhiannon Evans on Wednesday pleaded guilty in a case which could be dubbed as the first of its kind. Rhiannon Evans had sent a deluge of videos of her farting to her boyfriend’s ex partner identified as Deborah Prytherch to harass her.

Evans was slapped with 15 rehabilitation sessions, two months of alcohol abstinence monitoring. Two years restraining order has also been issued which meant that she can no longer harass the victim. She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation and £199 costs.

The court observed that Evans’ actions caused distress and anxiety to her boyfriend’s ex. Prosecutor Diane Williams detailed how Evans harassed the victim by farting while placing the camera on her bottom with her face smiling at the camera.

Reacting to the videos sent to her the victim stated that the belching made her feel unsafe in her home. She also added that the actions were purely malicious and intended to cause distress to her. She also said that Evans was smirking in the videos and she thought it was hilarious. However the victim felt it was very disturbing.

Evans was arrested from her home situated in Caernarfon and admitted that she had sent the videos. Evans told the prosecutor that she felt that her partner was treated unfairly.

Evans lawyer Harriet Gorst however defended his client and said,

“There are some issues going on between Miss Evans’s partner and his ex-partner with regard to child contact. At the time she sent these videos she had some drinks and she sent them, understanding now this has caused the victim some distress.”

Later Evans told media outlet Sun that she never thought a trivial action like farting would land her in court. She also labeled the sentence as disproportionate and theatrical. She also regretted sending the videos on WhatsApp but never thought that she would land into trouble for something so petty.
