Kiev, Feb 25 (IANS) Ukraine’s air defence forces successfully destroyed 16 Russian combat unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the sky over Ukraine overnight on Sunday, according to media reports. The Ukrainian Air Force engaged in an anti-aircraft battle and thwarted the attack launched by the Russian army with 18 Shahed combat UAVs.

The incident occurred on the night of February 25, 2024, when the Russian army attacked with 18 Shahed combat UAVs from Russia’s Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Crimea’s Cape Chauda. The Defence Forces’ mobile fire groups, anti-aircraft missile units, and Air Force aircraft were deployed to counter the threat and successfully destroyed 16 Shahed drones within various regions in Ukraine including Poltava, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.

Air raid sirens were activated in several regions of Ukraine on Saturday night as Russia launched attack drones into the country. The Ukrainian Air Force’s swift response led to the destruction of 16 out of 18 Russian combat UAVs, preventing further escalation of the situation.

The Ukrainian Air Force’s efficient operation in neutralizing the threat posed by the Russian combat UAVs highlights the readiness and capabilities of Ukraine’s air defence forces.
