UP CEO Announces Model Code Enforcement Before Fund Release
Lucknow, March 22 (IANS) – Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa has issued instructions to district magistrates to halt the release of funds from MPLADS or MLA Local Area Development Scheme until the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections is lifted. The CEO emphasized the necessity of implementing the MCC as per Election Commission guidelines.
The EC announced by-elections on four Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on March 16, in addition to the Lok Sabha elections. Rinwa highlighted that voters without an Elector’s Photo Identity Card must present an alternative photo identity document to cast their vote. Alternative documents have been identified and voters are required to produce one of the 12 options to establish their identity.
Rinwa specified that alternative documents such as Aadhar card, MNREGA job card, passbook with photo issued by banks/post offices, and others can be used for identification purposes. District election officers have been instructed to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a smooth voting process during the upcoming elections.
The CEO’s instructions aim to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and facilitate voter participation by providing suitable alternatives for individuals who do not possess an Elector’s Photo Identity Card. By implementing these measures, the Election Commission and district authorities seek to maintain transparency and accountability in the electoral system.
