UP girl dies of drug overdose after being lured into “thrill-seeking” experience

An 18-year-old girl died in Lucknow allegedly due to a drug overdose after being lured by her male friend for a “thrill-seeking experience”. The accused, identified as Vivek Maurya, injected the girl with a mixture of medicine and an addictive drug in a vacant plot in Tiwariganj.

The victim had recently returned to Lucknow from Bengaluru and was on her way to catch a train back when the incident took place on April 7. The police have arrested Vivek Maurya, who was a friend of the deceased, in connection with the case.

Initially filed under Section 302 (murder), the FIR has now been converted to Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) as investigations progress. The police mentioned that the girl’s condition deteriorated after the overdose, leading to her tragic death at the hospital.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the lethal cocktail was part of a “thrill-seeking experiment” gone wrong. He admitted to mixing smack in an Avil injection which he first took himself before administering it to the girl. The police found a syringe and a pack of smack at the scene.

The police also disclosed that the deceased had previously lived with her family in Vivek’s house, where he reportedly introduced her to drugs. The family suspects foul play in the girl’s death, believing the overdose may have been intentional to harm her. Vivek was apprehended near the Indira Canal after attempting to flee.
