UP government prepares to tackle heat-related illnesses
The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has issued guidelines to prevent and manage heat-related diseases in the state this summer. The Health Department will organize events to raise awareness, provide cool drinking water in crowded places, and train medical staff to identify and treat heat-related illnesses promptly. The government will also ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and implement energy conservation measures to lower indoor temperatures.
Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, has instructed all District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers to follow the guidelines for inter-departmental coordination on preventing heat-related diseases. With higher temperatures predicted in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country, the Health Department will focus on raising awareness, providing necessary supplies, and training medical staff to handle heat-related illnesses effectively.
The Health Department will make arrangements for cool and clean drinking water in crowded places, display weather forecasts, and conduct awareness sessions on heatwave protection in schools. Medical officers, paramedical staff, and frontline workers will receive training and awareness on identifying and treating heat-related diseases promptly. The government will also ensure the availability of necessary medications, intravenous fluids, and other supplies to manage the impact of extreme temperatures.
Efforts will be made to lower indoor temperatures by implementing techniques such as cool or green roofing and installing shades on windows and open areas. The government will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, install solar panels, and take energy conservation measures to cope with extreme heat. With heatwaves expected to prevail in central and northwestern regions from March to May 2024, the Health Department’s proactive approach is crucial in preventing and managing heat-related diseases effectively.
