UP government to host Holi festivities in shelter homes

Lucknow, March 24 (IANS) – Government shelter homes in Lucknow are all set to celebrate Holi for the first time officially, with special menus and activities planned for the inmates.

The government shelter home for boys, aged 10-18 years, has prepared a special menu including gujiyas, chips, poppadom, ‘chholey’, and paneer masala for its 118 inmates on the festival. Warden Saurav Pathak mentioned, “We will have special snacks and dinner menu for all inmates.”

An old age home at Sarojini Nagar funded by the social welfare department will also have Holi celebrations spread over two days. Chief administrator A.V. Bajpai said, “We partner with institutions and NGOs to bring their students to spend time with senior citizens, creating a familial atmosphere for everyone.”

The founder of Drishti Samajik Sansthan, a shelter home for specially-abled children, Dhiresh Bahadur, mentioned that water sprinklers have been ordered for the 200 inmates. The children will also participate in making gujiyas and snacks for Holi, with special meals planned for the festive occasion.
