Upendra Yadav of JSP takes oath as Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal

Upendra Yadav, chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party, was sworn in as the Deputy Prime Minister of Nepal on Sunday. Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi was appointed as the Minister for forest and environment, according to a statement from the President’s office. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top political leaders.

The Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker, and former Prime Ministers were present at the event where Upendra Yadav and Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi took their oaths. Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ introduced 20 ministers into his cabinet after forming a new coalition with the CPN (Unified Marxist-Leninist) following the severing of ties with the Nepali Congress.

Dahal, leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center), formed a coalition government with the CPN-UML in December 2022 after no single party secured a majority in the general elections. The Nepali Congress later joined the coalition government, and Dahal still has the ability to add three state ministers to his cabinet as per reports.
