US military reports four drones launched by Houthis in Yemen destroyed

In a recent development, the US forces have successfully intercepted and shot down four drones launched by the Houthi group in Yemen. These drones were aimed at a US-British coalition vessel and a US warship in the Red Sea, marking the second consecutive day of attacks on US naval ships in the region.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the incident, stating that the coalition intercepted and destroyed the drones targeting the US warship in the Red Sea on Wednesday. This comes as a response to the escalating attacks by Houthi forces on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since November 2023.

Since mid-January, the US and Britain have been conducting air and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, resulting in retaliatory attacks by the group on US or British warships. This has led to many shipping companies altering their routes to avoid the Red Sea, which is one of the busiest waterways in the world.

The Houthi group’s actions are believed to be in response to Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, prompting a cycle of violence and retaliation in the region. The US military remains vigilant in protecting its interests and ensuring the safety of its naval assets amidst the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
