US Officials Praise Indian Crew on Container Ship That Collided with Baltimore Bridge for Timely Warning

A Singapore-flagged container ship collided with a bridge in Baltimore, causing it to collapse. The 22-member crew, all Indians, are safe. The incident occurred early on Tuesday as the ship was bound for Colombo. The exact cause is under investigation.

The Synergy Marine Group reported, “All crew members, including the two pilots, have been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries. There has also been no pollution.” The US Coast Guard and local officials have been notified and the owners are cooperating with government agencies.

US officials mentioned power issues on the ship before the collision. Governor Wes Moore stated that the crew’s timely warning saved lives. Several vehicles and people fell into the water, with at least six people reported missing. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

The incident raises questions about the safety protocols and navigation practices of large container ships navigating through busy waterways. Further investigations will determine the exact cause of the collision and any necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
