The internet has given us the kind of access to data and communication we could have only dreamed of some years ago. However, with all the benefits it gives us, the internet also carries certain risks with it, most of them related to privacy and security.

Even if you are surfing the net from your own home, and especially if you are doing so from a public network, your connection may not be as safe as you would like it to be. Capable hackers can easily access networks and through them the devices that are connected to them.

One of the best ways to protect yourself when surfing the web is by using a VPN (virtual private network). Serving as an extra layer of security, a VPN can greatly increase your privacy on the internet, as well as be used for a few other neat tricks.

Stay Private with a VPN

When you first log onto the internet from your computer, mobile phone or another device, it is your internet service provider who provides you with the connection. This connection is direct and anyone trying to hack you can do so by hacking into your ISP’s servers. What’s even more, many ISPs provide user data to private companies and government agencies without consent worldwide.

This means any private data that you may share on there, including your passwords and banking information, is not stored on your ISPs servers. This is in fact the number one reason VPNs exist and are so popular in this day and age.

Some ISPs block certain content from their users, even when the content is completely legal for them to access. There are many reasons ISPs do this, and often they are asked by the government or private companies to protect local businesses.

However, there is nothing wrong or illegal with you accessing such content (as long as it’s not illegal content in general), and you can use a VPN to access it. A VPN will change your IP address and make it seem like you are accessing the content from another country, thus making it possible to access any sites that would be available to people surfing the web from that country.

Some people also use VPNs to download content from the internet and stay anonymous while doing so. There are legitimate reasons to do so, and if you want to download some data without anyone knowing about it, using a VPN will help you do just that and there is nothing illegal about it.

However, it is important to keep in mind what content is legal and what content is not. Trying to download movies, music, or other stuff that is copyright protected from illegal servers may result in you getting caught and being punished, depending on where you live. However, it is important to say that VPNs are very hard to track and for the most part it is very unlikely anyone will even bother to do so.

New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) – Zoho Founder and CEO, Sridhar Vembu, revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed interest in Zoho’s rural development model in Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu during his recent meeting.
