Val Verde Unified School District Faces Lawsuit Over Failure to Protect Students from Sexual Misconduct, Whole Case Explained

A lawsuit has been filed against the Val Verde Unified School District for not protecting the students of Citrus Hill High School and even instructing the school administrators not to report the predatory teacher to the police officials.

The Riverside County school district, which has more than 21 schools under its purview, including Citrus Hill High School, was reprimanded for contravening federal law and protecting students from sexual misconduct by a serving teacher. Now the district is facing a lawsuit for attempting a cover-up of sexual misconduct by a serving but now-axed teacher and tennis coach Kelly Carlton Reck. Reck was charged and later convicted and served a ninety-day sentence for molesting two students who were under his tutelage.

Val Verde Unified School District Lawsuit Explained

The lawsuit said that there was damning evidence of sexual misconduct by Reck back in 2015. However, the facts were ignored, and Reck’s conduct was not reported to the police. By the time action was initiated, nine students had already become victims and were sexually assaulted and molested him. The complainants, who were identified only as “Jane Doe 7100” and “Jane Doe 7099,” were two of the nine victims of Rick’s actions.

Reck, 62, was charged by the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office with nine cases of sexual misconduct and pleaded guilty to only three. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 90 days in a work-release program. He was also put on a list of proclaimed sex offenders and was made to undergo a state-certified sexual offender management program. His teaching credential was also stripped, and subsequently revoked.

Both the complainants, who are now 19 years old, were among the three victims for which Rick was convicted. Both victims revealed that Reck’s predatory actions started when they were in their senior years in August 2021.

The victims revealed that Reck used to touch them inappropriately and make sexually explicit remarks in front of other students. He also used to hug and lift the victims against their will. Reck’s actions became even bolder, and he initiated physical contact with the victims in November 2021. The suit further said that Reck kneeled beside the victim and proceeded to sexually assault her. No details were given about what the alleged assault involved.
