Veteran Industrialist Rahul Bajaj passes away at 83

Bajaj Motors founder Rahul Bajaj passed away on Saturday. He was 83 years old. Bajaj was also the chairman of the company which he founded in 1945.

Let us tell you, He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the government in 2001. Notably, Rahul Bajaj was the grandson of Indian freedom fighter and social activist Jamnalal Bajaj.

Rahul did his schooling from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He also earned a law degree from the Law University of Mumbai.

Rahul Bajaj took over the reins of the Bajaj Group in 1965. At that time India was a almost closed economy. He made a scooter named Bajaj Chetak while leading the company. This scooter gained a lot of name and was considered as an indicator of the aspiration of the middle class family of India. After that the company continued to grow.

In the nineties, when liberalization started in India and it moved towards an open economy and Indian two wheelers started getting tough competition from Japanese motorcycle companies, Rahul Bajaj took the company forward. Bajaj Auto, the flagship company of the Bajaj Group, had a turnover of Rs 7.2 crores, which has grown to Rs 12,000 crores today and its portfolio of products has also grown.

It was under the leadership of Rahul Bajaj that his products found a different place in the global market.

Rahul Bajaj had decided to step down last year. Rahul Bajaj, the company’s non-executive director, has been associated with Bajaj Auto since 1972 and the Bajaj Group of Companies for the last five decades.
