History

According to Shiva Purana, the fourth part of Rudrasamhita states that Mata Parvati gave birth to a child out of her filth before taking a bath and making him her porter. When Shivaji wanted to go inside, the boy stopped him. On this Shivgan fought fiercely with the child but no one could defeat him in the war. In the end, Lord Shankar got angry and cut off the child’s head with his trident.

Due to this Mother, Parvati got angry and assumed the form of Jagadamba. The frightened gods, on the advice of Devarshinarada, praised Jagadamba and consoled Jagadamba. On the instructions of Shiva, Vishnu brought the head of the first animal (elephant) from the north side.

Mrityunjay Rudra revived the child by placing the head of the elephant on the child’s body. Mother Parvati embraced the harsh face of Harshatrik and blessed him to be one of the deities. Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh called this child Sarvadiksha and gave the boon of being the first to be worshipped. Lord Shankar said to the child – Gajanan! Your name will be at the fore in removing the obstacles.
