An unverified document, allegedly showing a court filing by Javaughn Young-White, Kehlani’s ex-partner, requesting full custody of their daughter Adeya, has sparked a huge debate on the internet.
The court document also alleges that Kehlani is involved with a “cult” and that Adeya’s care has been provided by group members while the singer is on tour.
The document further points out the unusual beliefs Kehlani has expressed about Adeya’s spirit and details Adeya’s interactions with group members.
Screenshots of the alleged court filings by Kehlani’s former partner, Javaughn Young-White, surfaced on the internet recently. Young-White also recalled how Kehlani once described their 5-year-old daughter’s spirit as “one of her wives in a past life.”
The court filing also claims that Kehlani allows an adult woman, a member of the cult, to take a bath while Adeya is under the influence of psychedelic drugs. Young-White also stated that his daughter is left under the care of cult members, whom Kehlani refers to as “messiahs.”
The document stated:
“Adeya sleeps in the bed with, and is given baths by, random adult members of the cult, and she is often in the bedroom alone with some of these people. I have been trying to express my fear, anger, and concern to Kehlani about our daughter’s living environment when she is on tour and when she is with her cult, who essentially live in her home. However, instead of addressing my feelings, she resorts to disparaging me online to her millions of social media followers.”
Netizens have reacted to this unusual news, with one user stating:
“Ok, now this is where I’m gonna start disagreeing with her. This isn’t okay. This is too far. Even if it’s women, they don’t know your daughter. You don’t know what they’re doing to her. And that’s just weird.”
Adeya was born in March 2019 to Kehlani and guitarist Javaughn Young-White after the couple had been dating for a year. The couple parted ways but were jointly parenting their child. In August 2024, Young-White filed for full custody of Adeya.
Kehlani has denied the claims made in the lawsuit and took to Instagram to give her side of the story:
“I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe. I also do not align with any of the allegations made against my former religious community that have been stated in the media.”
