Virginia Man Arrested Near Capitol Hill for Attempted Car Fire During Donald Trump’s Visit
As the days go by, the installation of the 47th President of the United States draws near, and there has been another incident and another arrest.
This time, a Virginia man was arrested on Capitol Hill on Wednesday for trying to set his car on fire, and guess who was around—yes, it was Donald Trump, the Republican Party President-elect, who was at the Congress to pay respects to the late President Jimmy Carter and to meet lawmakers to discuss priorities for when he takes office.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger said:
“Our officers stopped a man who could have been a danger to the Capitol Hill community. This vigilance is critical during this time of heightened security.”
Fox News reported that the incident happened just before 5:30 PM on First Street Northwest near the Grant Memorial.
According to the police, the car had been spray-painted, and a man, who was not named, set a bag placed atop the vehicle on fire.
When the police officers reached the car, the fire had burned out, and the man was arrested without offering any resistance. Police later determined that the car was not a hazard but revealed that accelerants were discovered in the bag.
There have been earlier attempts on the life of President-elect Donald Trump, but it is not clear if this incident was another attempt on his life.
