Vivek Agnihotri and Hansal Mehta voice for Same-Sex Marriage, Says, ‘It’s not a crime’

Vivek Agnihotri, an Indian director, tweeted in favour of same-sex marriage after the centre rejected the notion. The Kashmir Files’ director claimed that those who oppose same-sex unions in a developed nation like India don’t consider them to be a basic human necessity.

Responding to a tweet that stated, “The Centre reminds the Supreme Court that same-sex marriage is an urban elitist concept that stands apart from the cultural ethos of the country.” A new institution will emerge if same-sex marriage is permitted in heterosexual relationships as well. Agnihotri emphasised the significance of allowing citizens to use this right in a democracy like India.

Vivek Agnihotri’s tweet argues that same-sex marriage is not a “urban elitist” idea. It is a need of people. It may have been written by sarkari (government) intellectuals also Mumbai citizens, who have never visited villages or tiny towns. Same-sex marriage should be commonplace rather than illegal in a modern, open, along with inclusive human culture like Bharat.

Prior to a group of lawsuits requesting legal recognition of same-sex weddings in India being heard by the Supreme Court, the director Vivek Agnihotri tweeted.

In spite of the Centre’s opposition, requests will be heard on Tuesday by a five-judge panel that includes Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, judges Hima Kohli, PS Narasimha,  S Ravindra Bhat, and SK Kaul.

Director Hansal Mehta also responded to Agnihotri’s tweet by highlighting the significance of allowing same-sex unions in order to establish an example for gender equality in a varied nation like ours. He depicted a gay pair from the 2022 anthology miniseries Modern Lover Mumbai of Amazon Prime Video, which was represented by Ranveer Brar and Pratik Gandhi.
