Walmart is vending a Hermes Birkin look-alike, which it has named “Birkin,” and the product has sold out after a huge social media buzz.
The major customers have been budget-conscious buyers who swarmed to buy the Birkin bag look-alike.
It is a poor man’s alternative to the French luxury goods maker Hermès’ Birkin bag.

However, many consumers were frustrated to find that these bags had gone out of stock.
For a large section of the population, premium luxury brands like Hermès are beyond their reach.
To such a section of consumers, cheaper, high-quality duplicates of major brands are an attractive alternative.
Also, the proliferation of online shopping outlets and fashion influencers has played a role in increasing the buzz and hype of these look-alikes.
Online shopping outlets have also made these look-alike brands freely available all across the globe.
Hermes manufactures its bags, but they are sold online by a Los Angeles-based company, Maison de Luxe, which features in its inventory both new and pre-owned Hermes bags.
The outlet sells bags for prices ranging between $26,500 and $399,999. One may wonder why these bags command such high prices.
For the unversed, each bag is created by hand by a single artisan, and it may take up to two days to perfect a bag before it is ready for sale. The starting price of a Birkin bag is $7,200.
Hermes was slapped with a lawsuit in March where it was alleged that to buy a Birkin bag, the consumer has to buy other Hermes accessories, which adds to the price of the premium bags.
Compare this to the price of a Birkin bag, which comes with a price tag of $78, and the final price depends upon the size and colour.
One of the manufacturers of the Wirkin bag, Kamugo, revealed that the bag is made from pure cowhide leather, but the interiors are made of synthetic leather.
The bag is also manufactured by other firms like BESTSPR, YMTQ, and Judy.
Hermes has many anecdotes attached to its exclusive Wirkin range. It manufactured a Birkin bag made of crocodile skin with arrangements for baby bottles for well-known British actress Jane Birkin in 1984.
The actress wanted a customized bag as a young mother. The bag was later sold for $390,000 at auction during the pandemic.
Many celebrities, such as Beyoncé, Cardi B, and the Kardashian family, have owned the legendary bag at some point in their lives.
