A Philadelphia police officer was charged in a Pennsylvania court on Friday, September 8 with killing Eddie Irizarry. According to CNN, a police officer shot and killed 27-year-old Irizarry after he made a minor traffic error.

Irizarry may be seen inside his car during the incident’s video, and it’s claimed that he was carrying a knife. Irizarry’s alleged killer, Officer Mark Dial, initially claimed that the victim had attempted to attack him. However, the prosecution said that the footage offered no evidence supporting this.
According to the BBC, Mark Dial’s attorneys claimed on Friday, September 8, that the police officer had believed Eddie Irizarry had a pistol before the killing.

Eddie Irizarry was allegedly driving dangerously in North Philadelphia on August 14, 2023, when Mark Dial of the Philadelphia Police Department pulled him over. A video shows Officer Dial exiting his police vehicle and approaching Irizarry’s vehicle.
He promptly fired at Irizarry through the car window after that, killing him. Irizarry allegedly tried to attack Officer Dial with a knife after getting out of his car before the footage was ever shown.
Mark Dial turned himself into the police on Friday, September 8. The Inquirer noted that he was accompanied by members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Number 5 as well as his solicitors. Dial recited his account of events in court, claiming he genuinely believed he was in danger.
Irizarry may have possessed a weapon, but the prosecutors contended that he didn’t appear particularly dangerous because he wasn’t moving and didn’t appear to be armed. The cop might have mistaken the knife for a pistol, Dial’s defence continued.
