Watson believes he should have given the ball to Boult in the final over of IPL 2024 match against GT

In a thrilling IPL match, the Rajasthan Royals faced defeat at the hands of the Gujarat Titans. Shane Watson believes that giving Trent Boult the final over could have been a better tactical decision, despite RR ultimately choosing Avesh Khan. Titans chased down 196 runs to win by three wickets on the last ball, handing RR their first loss of the season.

Watson explained, “I would have definitely thrown him the ball. Trent Boult outside of the powerplay throughout this IPL, is going at 14 runs an over.” Despite Boult’s struggles in the IPL, Watson emphasized the importance of experienced players stepping up in crucial moments. Captain Shubman Gill’s 72 off 44 balls set up the chase for Titans, but Rashid Khan’s unbeaten 24 off 11 balls ultimately secured the win for his team.

Watson praised Gill’s performance with the bat, saying, “He is a classy operator. It felt like he would have to win the game on his own.” Eoin Morgan also lauded Gill, highlighting his ability to apply pressure and score around the ground effectively. Despite RR’s loss, the match showcased the competitive spirit and talent of the players, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the last ball.
