West Indies Women to Tour Pakistan for White Ball Series in April

Lahore, March 20 (IANS) The West Indies women’s team is set to tour Pakistan for a white-ball series in April, comprising three ODIs and five T20Is at National Stadium in Karachi. The series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, with matches scheduled for April 18, 21, 23, 26, 28, 30, May 2, and 3.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that the series will serve as preparation for both teams ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year. The PCB’s commitment to promoting women’s cricket is highlighted by hosting the series at home, fostering relationships between cricketing nations and striving to secure a direct qualification spot for the Pakistan women’s team in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup.

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket, emphasized the importance of the upcoming series against West Indies in the context of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 and the Women’s T20 World Cup. Pakistan currently holds the third position in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, while West Indies is at ninth place. In the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, Pakistan is ranked eighth, with West Indies in sixth position.

The upcoming series will mark West Indies’ return to Pakistan after their last tour in November 2021. Pakistan’s hosting of the series reflects a busy schedule of international cricket for the women’s team, with previous series against Sri Lanka, Ireland, and South Africa already held at home. The tour to England in May will conclude Pakistan’s participation in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25.

The series between Pakistan and West Indies is set to be a pivotal moment in the journey towards qualification for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup and preparation for the Women’s T20 World Cup. The cricketing action promises to be exciting as both teams strive for success on the international stage.
