As already mentioned the Sigma Nu fraternity was founded on January 1, 1869 but its existence was kept a secret until October 1869 when it entered public domain. The website of the fraternity stated that the expansion of the fraternity began in 1870 when its founding members graduated.
The fraternity is guided by three principals –Love ,Honor and Truth.
A statement on the website reads,
“For more than a century and a half, Sigma Nu chapters have shaped the college student into a man of integrity, providing him a full education in preparation of a life dedicated to honor and service to others. Sigma Nu will provide opportunities for members to achieve personal and intellectual growth through ethical leadership development and accountability.”
Some of the notable pass outs of the fraternity includes, William S. “Army” Armstrong, Sr., Joe Buck, sportscaster for Fox; Charles W. “Chuck” Dicus, sportsman; Harrison Ford, actor; Indian actor and comedian Vir Das etc.
The fraternity boasts over 235,000 members and it is also a part of the Lexington Triad which is a trio of several national fraternities founded in colleges in Lexington.
Interestingly a number of fraternities like Sigma Nu have endorsed their choice of Presidential candidate in the 2024 US Presidential race.
Sigma Nu has not celebrated the Post Trump win in isolation but was joined by a number of other fraternities who are also celebrating the win of their seemingly favorable candidate. Earlier a number of fraternities had endorsed Kamala Harris candidature.
Harris had earlier addressed one such sorority, Zeta Phi Beta and said,
“In this moment our nation — as it always has — is counting on you. To energize, to organize, to mobilize. To register folks to vote, to get them to the polls and to continue to fight for the future our nation and her people deserve.”
