The payment under the December SSI benefits will be disbursed earlier on November 29, not on the usual date of December 1, since it falls on Sunday.
Thus the recipients will receive two tranches in tone month, i.e. November.
The money is disbursed by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The scheme is designed to benefit the citizens who are underprivileged and come from the lower income bracket as well as persons with disabilities.
The scheme is financed by general tax revenue and the final amount will be determined by eligibility criteria, filing status and any increase will be based upon 2024 inflation figures.

The move has been taken to prevent any difficulties especially if the release date falls on a Sunday or a Government Holiday. Earlier the recipients received their SSI benefits for November on November 1.
Eligibility norms and Payment particulars
Persons with physical impairment which reduces their earning potential and restricts day to day activities are eligible for SSI benefits. Persons who are partially blind or have been afflicted by debilitating diseases for a year or are in a terminal state of health are eligible for the SSI benefits.
Adjusting for inflations, the SSI benefits as compared to previous years have risen by 3.2%. Also the SSI payments are independent of Social Security benefits and being eligible for SSI does not mean the person is also eligible for other Social Security benefits.
SSI and Social Security-Differences
The basic difference between SSI and Social Security despite the fact that they cater to similar sections of the society is that while the former is provided by the general tax receipts, the latter is paid from payroll taxes. However the target population of both the funds are citizens who are differently abled and and have limited money and resources.
