White House: Joe Biden To Arrive India for Bilateral Meet With PM Modi on 8 Sept; China Yet To Confirm Its Participation

The White House announced that Joe Biden, the US President will travel as a part of G20 Summit participation to India. Joe Biden will arrive this week on 7 September. He will have a bilateral meeting with Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India on 8 September.

The current presidency of G20 is with India. India will be hosting all sorts of functions, meetings, and global leaders for the ongoing G20 summit until Nov 2023. The recent hosting will be done in New Delhi from September 9 to 10. The theme of the current G20 summit is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”

What White House Has To Say Over Joe Biden’s India Visit

The White House announced, “On Thursday (September 7), the President will travel to New Delhi, India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit. On Friday, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

White House further added that Joe Biden will commend the Prime Minister of India for the leadership held by PM Modi, and added, “While in New Delhi, the President will also commend Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 and reaffirm the US commitment to the G20 as the premier forum of economic cooperation, including by hosting it in 2026.”

The Discussion

Joe Biden and Narendra Modi together are expected to discuss various social issues such as the Russia-Ukrain war, economic turmoil, multilateral development banks increasing their capacity, the World Bank and its measures to alleviate poverty, various prevailing and upcoming global challenges, and many more. On 10 September, post the scheduled meeting, Biden has his next visit to Hanoi, Vietnam.

About G20 and China’s Participation

The G20 is a group of nations, an intergovernmental forum consisting of various developing as well as developed countries that contribute to a major part of World GDP. However, until now Xi Jinping, the Chinese President has not confirmed his participation in the G20 summit to be held on 9-10 September. As per PTI, the chances of the Chinese President joining the meeting is quite low. Premier Li Qiang might be sent by China to represent the President at the meeting scheduled in New Delhi.
